The Messiah of the poor
Jagdish Lal Ahuja
The 83 year old Jagdish Lal Ahuja, from Chandigarh is a man who bears testimony to the age old saying that the way to a man's heart is through the stomach. He is one man who dwells in the hearts of millions by feeding them.
Born in Peshawar Jagdish Lal Ahuja recalls the days of his childhood where he had to walk miles to arrange for one square meal, the blisters have gone but the scars remain. He never went to school and has memories of childhood that remind him only of poverty and deprivation. At the age of 21 he started selling fruits and bought his first property.
A chance meeting with a boy serving rice to people inspired him to feed people. Since the past 17 years he has been organizing langars and finds solace in this noble deed. A Man of great self respect, he does not seek help from anyone but hopes to get some support by the governor to continue his langar in future. Popularly known as Langar baba, he is an inspiration to many.
The students of DPS Varanasi salute the spirit of this man and stand in support of this humane cause.
