Sports are important part of developing and learning at DPS, Varanasi. Team games are crucial for learning how to work closely with groups to achieve common goals. The teams we are currently include cricket, football, basketball, tennis, table tennis and badminton. We have a tie up with Tennis Express, which provides a platform for the students to play and learn tennis under the guidance of All India Tennis Association (AITA) DPS, Varanasi has already got a pool for toddlers and a half Olympic size swimming pool for everyone else.

The sports complex has indoor games facilities for chess, table tennis, badminton and carom. At DPS, Varanasi, a staff of qualified instructors and coaches train the children the year around in at least one outdoor sports and one indoor sports activity through the year. The competition leading up to the Sports Day ensures horizontal participation through the house system. Most students participate in at least one event for their house teams.

Performing and creative arts activities are part of the timetable at school. Extracurricular activities provide the impetus for further participation and peer evaluation.

Varanasi's own rich cultural heritage provides a strong backdrop for development in this area. Workshops, excursions and field trips, meeting craftsmen in their ambiance is a norm. These activities are further spurred on through planned workshops, lecture demonstrations and performances from in and around Varanasi and outside.

Tie-ups with NGO's like SPICMACAY ensure exposure to the best practitioners in the varies fields of vocal and instrumental music, dance and theatre. The facilities offer opportunities to develop abilities in sitar, guitar, flute, shehnai, tabla, piano etc.

A regular faculty of music teachers, specializing in different aspects of music are a part of our teaching staff. Special tuition are available in Bharat natyam, Kathak, Western dance and aerobics.

At DPS, Varanasi, an integrated performing arts block houses an auditorium, and an audio-visual room, which provides an impetus to develop musical, theatrical and public interaction abilities in children. There is a dance room, and music rooms for sitar, guitar, drum, tabla and synthesiser. This enhances group activities. The auditorium also provides facilities for children to pursue further exploration in sound, music and filming. We also have a school orchestra.

Our buses are equipped with microphones and speakers. The children love using these for spontaneous, public performances! Children plan and execute activities for special assemblies like the Independence Day, Earth Day, Mother's Day etc.

On the visual arts side, DPS, Varanasi offers classes in art, exploration of different media like batik, crayon, water colour, oil painting, sketching, etc.

Besides classrooms, the resource centre an important centre for children to pursue their curiosities, seek answers to their questions and acquire a discipline of life long learning at DPS, Varanasi.

Computers are an integral part of the library where guided access to the net, give children access to a universe of information. Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths have their individual laboratories and display areas where children are taught through experimentation to answer questions in a scientific and logical manner. We have taken care and made investments to make laboratories lively, interactive and comprehensively equipped.

To successfully fulfill our role in the children's lives, we need the active involvement of our parents and most importantly, their agreement with our ways of doing things. For this, we invite the close co-operation of parents and teachers, to work as a team. Absolutely essential for a parents is being a part of children's day-to day work. This is a tremendous confidence booster for the children, especially for one who needs the additional support. This collaboration goes a long way in building confidence and a sense of security in your child.

Built into the system at DPS, Varanasi are regular feedback channels involving all three the child, parents and teachers. We see to it that regular, mandatory parents- teacher meeting (PTMs) ensure interaction between all three. We include bi-weekly walk in the time, built into the timetable so that the teacher are accessible to parents and any issue that need to be discussed are never left pending for long. We usher in a daily communication channel via the space in the children's diaries and a walk in time everyday, too. We desire parents to volunteer time as is convention to them for school activities, regularly in the classroom or occasionally.

Our own buses are equipped with everything a student could ask for. They are designed to stringent safety standards and ensure safe travel. What's more, we train the drivers and conductors to be sensitive to the needs of children and parents, with training provided by TISCO on 'Gender Sensitization'.

The buses are equipped with audio and mike systems and mobile phones for improved, efficient service. Our rescue van provides backup to the bus facility. There is always a teacher on every bus.
